In this talk Zhaoyin will give an overview of smart driving and some recent advance in this area. Smart driving and autonomous vehicles have been proposed for over decades. The first few pioneers came from the Darpa Grand Challenge around 2000s. With recent advance of artificial intelligence, we have seen a great improvement in all the performances including perception, path-planning and machine learning area in general. Zhaoyin will introduce the current major sensors and modules equipped for smart driving, and the challenges as well as the opportunities in the domain.
Zhaoyin Jia is currently a principal engineer in Didi Research U.S., and a tech lead in the smart driving project. Previously he worked in Google / Waymo for 3 years in perception, focusing on machine learning related areas. Previously Zhaoyin received his Bachelor Degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Ph.D from Cornell University in domain of Computer Vision, particularly object segmentation and recognition.
